A 19-year-old man from Chicago's South Side is in police custody after police caught him sexually assault a local Lincoln Park resident late Thursday evening. The victim, a 28-year-old woman, was rescue after an alert neighbor noted a purse hanging in the buildings back stairwell at around 11:30 pm and instantly called to report a disturbance. It is suspected that the rapist enters the victim's unit through a back window and might have been trying to steal the purse.
Upon inward at the scene, located at 1100 W. Dickens, cops spotted an open window and approached the apartment to further investigate the call. After finding the think still in the unit, they were able to halt the assauly while it was still in progress. The victim was treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for her injuries and was final reported to be in good condition. The man was then taken to police headquarters where he was recognized as Darrell Moore, of 8043 S. St. Lawrence Ave.
According to The Chicago Sun-Times, he has been charged with one tally of home invasion, one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault, and denied bond. Robert Wachowski, DePaul's Director of Public Safety, advise students to stay aware when walking at night. "Stay on main streets and don't be captivating shortcuts," he said. He also suggest programming 911 into cell phones to be prepared in the case of emergency.
