Obama backs India offer for UN Security Council chair

American President Barack Obama on Monday upturned India for a long-term seat on the U.N. Security Council, a staged political sign to his hosts at the end of his first call to this thriving nation.

Obama complete the declaration in a speech to India's congregation on the third and final day of his stay. In doing so, he satisfied what was maybe India's darling wish for Obama's trip here. India has required permanent Security Council friendship for years.

"The now and sustainable worldwide order that America seeks include a United Nations that is well-organized, effective, credible and rightful," Obama said. "That is why I can say today — in the years ahead, I look ahead to a rehabilitated U.N. Security Council that includes India as a enduring associate."
